Concept mapping

In contrast with the rigid structure of the mind map, the concept map maintains a flexible layout. It allows you to move your topics anywhere on the map canvas by dragging them and organize your map as you see best.

Whenever you add a new topic in your concept map, you can instantly explain how it’s linked to the previous one by labeling their connecting lines. As you add more topics, you may even see new connections between your ideas.

Concept map creation

Click on the Create button on the top-left corner of your Dashboard.

Then go to the Concept map section and click on Create.

Adding topics

  • hit ENTER (insert topic) or TAB (insert subtopic)
  • click on the "+" button on the top toolbar
  • hover over a topic, and drag&drop the arrow located below its text
  • open the context menu on a topic (click on the white triangle from its top-right side)

Note

In a concept map, any connecting line between a parent topic and its child subtopics comes with a label, so the line will work as a relationship between the topic-subtopic.

Relationships between topics

Add a relationship between unconnected topics:

  1. Hover over a topic to see the arrow located below its text
  2. Drag the red "+" sign towards the topic you want to connect to
  3. Drop the red "+" sign to create the relationship

Relationship customization

  1. Click on the relationship to see its label and to add text to your label.
  2. Click on the label's context menu to open the panel
  3. set the Color of the relationship
  4. set the Shape of the relationship
  5. set the Weight of the relationship
  6. set the Remove relationship
  7. set the Pattern of the relationship
  8. set the Endings of the relationship
  9. Edit the label or delete it
  10. Copy and paste the style of the relationship or set the relationship as default
  11. Reset relationship to default values

Due to its high level of flexibility, the concept map allows you to freely customize its layout - move around topics and relationships, customize their orientation - while still maintaining the visual integrity of each element on the map.

Change the concept map into a mind map

  1. Click on the arrow on the central topic to open the context menu and select the Layout tab
  2. The list of predefined mind map layouts
  3. The layout of the concept map - choosing any other layout will turn it into a normal diagram
